Get to work!

Nothing to jumpstart the week like pictures of a pretty workspace….

This office by the architect D. Stanley Dixon had me at first glance.  It’s calm, clean, and so pretty- love the neutral color palate and the large piece of art on the credenza.

The overall look and the details are definitely inspiration for my own office.  I need lots of storage and it’s all a mish-mash of things- file drawers, bins for fabrics and materials, etc… the best way to store everything in various containers and keep a cohesive look to a space is with a table skirt.  I might be guilty of overdoing them, but they solve so many problems (as in, they hide so many eyesores!).  I definitely am a fan of a simple linen skirt topped with glass like this!

Live plants freshen things up and keep things casual.

The rolls of drawings in another large basket is a convenient and pretty storage solution.  Even if you’re not someone who has rolls of drawings hanging around, this is a really great way to store rolls of fabric or wrapping paper.

This is the only “clutter” that can be found in these pictures- doesn't it look great!?! The clutter in my office has NEVER looked so chic!

Lots of light and pretty accessories.  Love the mix of the Saarinen style table with these old lanterns and pine cabinet.  What a great place to sit and start or end the day!

Friday Flowers: Lavender

Winter or summer,  masses of lavender always look beautiful (and smell amazing!)…

Vicki Archer lets us in on her summer view in her new book French Essence. That intoxicating color!  Those snow capped mountains! Does it get any more gorgeous than this?!?

Happy Weekend!

Cozy spaces

Winter weekends make me want to bundle up and relax with comfort food, favorite movies, and good books.  A few of my favorite images du jour would be the perfect setting for doing just that…   kathryn ireland california great room

A few of the common characteristics that make these spaces so cozy are their use of RED (I seem to be smitten with this color lately- see my last post!), layering pattern upon pattern, worn woods, accessory collections that are just eclectic enough but not cluttered, and lots of pillows, throws, and slipcovers.  Definitely a recipe for wanting to settle into a chair, put your feet up, and stay that way for a while!

Red Piping

Kate and Andy Spades charmingly eclectic New York apartment has been all over the blogosphere after being featured on The Selby recently.  One of the details I really loved from their very color-filled house was the armchair that’s got a white slipcover with red piping.

That little line of red really adds a lot of personality, doesn’t it?  It’s also a great way to tie into other colors in the room.

Alessandra Branca, the queen of red , did the same with these gauzy slips over formal Chippendale chairs.  This little dash of color is such a fun way to liven up your white slips without having color/pattern remorse afterwards!
